    Hi,
JX75 uses a BBC, so engine will run without the blade turning. Two engines were used on that machine; FC150V and FJ180V, but everything works similarly. There are two bails and three levers. The bails are for self-propel (bottom) and BBC (top.) The levers are throttle and gear/ground speed (5 speeds) on the left and BBC on the right.
To start it, push the throttle all the way forward to choke, place foot on frame (where it says to) and pull starter (it is at the engine since it is BBC) and it should crank on the second pull. Allow to warm a moment and ease throttle back to the run position.
To start the blade, hold down the upper bail and push the BBC lever (right side) forward until it locks.
Pick your ground speed on the left and lift the bottom bail up to engage. You can shift on the go by releasing the bottom bail to shift and then lifting to engage again.
Very nice, and expensive mower. Personal opinion: no one but Honda makes one better (Toro would probably disagree.) Those three are the top of the line. Someone must like you, so treat their mower well.
    Peace,
    Clarke

My mower has not been run for a while. When I start it and take off the choke and put it at high speed, the engine revs up and down. There appears to be a throttle linkage of some sort that is moving back and forth by itself causing the up and down reving action. Can somebody advise me on repair?...
