Air guns are subject to the same licensing and registration as regular guns and rifles. A very dangerous weapon.

It actually depends on the power of the rifle. A low power air gun is defined as one with a muzzle velocity of less than 152.4 meters/second and is classed as an "imitation firearm" and only requires that you be over 18 to purchase it.

The bad news is that that limits unlicensed guns to Airsoft and Nerf type weapons. A Daisy Red Ryder BB gun exceeds 152.4 meters/second. (That's about 500 ft/sec.)

Hopefully he will take my answer at face value and not try to buy one. Like we really need ANY type of weapons on the streets.

At the same time air pellets are classed as amunitions and require registration by the retailer, who are not exactly on every street corner in ontario.

Crossman makes a lovely little .17 break barrel with a 5 shot magazine with a 2350 f/s muzzle velocity. That's faster than the HMR.

Must be relatively new on the market. I bought my one, only, and last air gun 5 years ago.

Yeah, the break barrel pump is pretty new. My little .17 you have to pump the forestock 5 or 6 times, but it's what I used to teach my daughter to shoot 15 years ago.

Oh cripes... Canada really went off the deep end on that one. Do they license Commercially made sling shots and jail kids that make their own too? I'm surprised they don't register kitchen knives to because those are far more lethal and dangerous than a BB gun.
