Are there grandparent rights in Alabama? If so what are the conditions?

    Hello N:

Grandparent rights are a brand new concept in the law. Most states DON'T recognize grandparents rights. Some of the more progressive ones do, however, I haven't known Alabama to be very progressive. Therefore, I highly doubt whether a grandparent has ANY rights in Alabama.

To make sure, though, call a family attorney. He should be able to tell you on the phone for absolutely NO money. IF you HAVE rights, then you can hire him, and he'll be happy about that.

Alabama has a Grandaparents visitation statute. It can be found here:

You'd need to speak with a family law attorney in Alabama. (S)he could give you the exact advice you need.
