Wouldn't hurt to dump some libricant down there, wd40 etc. Then all you can do is try to hit it down and hank it up until it breaks loose, or breaks off, in which case you will most likely have to replace the complete waste and overflow assembly. Hope you have access from behind or below the tub drain. These things can get pretty stuck over time, and all you can do is try your hardest to get it out. When all else fails, replace the whole thing. Good luck, and please let us know how things work out.
