Actually, most utilities will work with the customer and do what they can to accommodate.
There is not much we can tell you here. This is something you really need to go over with a site meeting....
-
Well, I don't ever use backstab connections on devices, but the real pain is in boxes with a lot of wires. They fill up real quick with #12.
-
The #12/20A minimum is a stupid requirement for pretty much any house. That is typically there on boilerplate plans where the specifications are general and just copied and pasted.
There is...
-
I heard that about the southeast and the west. As far as I know California even has their loadcenters outside.
-
This is not an NEC requirement. It's probably a local code amendment.
-
Air con. Table saw. Compressor. Welder. Well. Water heater. Electric heat.
Pretty much the only 120/240V loads are cooking appliance and dryers.
Not nearly enough info. Please add a lot of...
-
Absolutely not. You'll need a 3-wire for each set of 3-way switches.
-
Are you seriously asking this question on a Home & Garden message board?
-
First and foremost, you cannot run UF outside to feed a hot tub. You must use insulated conductors (even the ground) in conduit.
-
Typically a lighting socket will be rated at 250W maximum, with some @ 600W max.
No way could you power any kind of space heater form one. The fact that you are even asking this is scary.
In...

DW, this is a message board, not Google.

What do your school notes say?
-
Nope, not at all. Some are, but definitely not all or even most.
Only in some places. Many states/areas do not have licensing for workers, and some, like NY and PA, have no statewide license at...

What is the fuse panel? And why is it needed?
There should be no neutral connection for a 240V pump motor. So just wire with two hots and a ground.
-
Hank could also check the dates of the posts he is replying to and see that it is six years old.
-
Pretty much every bath fan I have ever seen was able to be installed over a tub or shower. The only stipulation is the instructions usually demand the unit be GFCI protected.
-
Why directly over the tub? It's not like this will prevent steam from getting into the room anyway.
I could never understand the logic of putting a bath fan over a tub or shower.
-
What is an 80 amp breaker box?
This does not help at all. What are the breakers controlling? Are the loads 120V? 240V?
What in the world does this mean?
-
Since this is obviously a commercial setting, why not let someone with the knowledge and experience handle this job?
Someone doing such an installation should not have to ask these questions.
...

I suggest a marine repair shop.
-
I am assuming you are in the UK?
I am curious as to why you are looking for "advice for the best way to do this lighting circuit" when you are having an electrician do this work. Is he not capable...
-
It's actually very easy. Just get on the phone and call a qualified electrician. He'll make quick work of it.
-
First off, why not pick an appropriate title. This is the electrical section so we know the question will be about electrical.
You can by code, by physically and correctly might be an issue. You...
-
You would need to tell us exactly what each cable is, and where it goes.
-
Using the plug is fine without the neutral hooked up, but keep it hooked up at the receptacle.
-
Don, seriously?
You should know that this only applies to 120/240V household cooking appliance and electric dryers. A compressor does not and never did apply, mainly because it is a straight 240V...
-
What does this mean? No self-respecting electrician is going to break down prices on each item of a service upgrade, or even a remodel job. So saying "$1000 for the 400A panel?" is completely...
-
WTH kind of answer is this? Yes, the red is a hot wire, most likely a switched wire, but it is no hotter than the black.
And insulating gloves? What DIY has those? Killing the power and testing to...
-
If the fan has a built in remote system and no pull chain at all for the speeds it cannot be done.
-
Don, your post is very confusing. Why can't he simply replace the 30 with a 20A? The 30 is already too big for the #12 wire he's got, so going to a 20A is the right thing to do.
The only way to...
-
You should discuss this with your foreman/boss/supervisor/engineer/whatever.
This is a home and garden DIY message board. If you have to come here to ask questions about a job such as this maybe...
-
I have to agree with Fr. Chuck. If you are asking for a wire by wire explanation then there are far too many variables.
It's like you are asking "I want to change the alternator in my car, how do I...
-
Don, not sure what you are looking for with this line of questioning, or what it has to do wit the original post. It is very typical in Canada to have kitchen counter receptacles split-wired on 15A...
-
Well yes, both of these used on one 15A circuit will most likely trip quite often, but I think you know that already.
-
Let me google that for you
Took all of three seconds.
-
QOC-20M is the cover number.
The breaker you seek is a Square D "QO" series.
-
Just so you know, this is not Hampton Bay Customer Service. This site is not affiliated with them at all.
-
Magic smoke. It's MAGIC smoke.
You forgot to mention that.
-
In the US at least two-pole or tied breaker is required by code these days, so two untied SP breakers is not an option.
Besides, who cares if someone get's the impression that it's 240V? What would...
-
A MWBC is not very dangerous. I'm not sure why you would make this misleading statement. In fact, the OP is from Canada where I believe they were code required for kitchen receptacles for a long time.
-
What did you think would happen when you plugged an appliance that is supposed to run on 120V into a 220V supply?? How did you even plug it in? The plugs are different.
Can it be fixed? How are we...
-
You can, unless the instructions say ceiling mount only, which many do.
-
That stuff is not car lighting. It's simply 12V LED tape light being marketed as car lighting by that one eBay seller. The same stuff is all over the place, Amazon seems to have the best prices and...
-
Plus do a search of this forum. Timers are a big subject every holiday season and have been discussed dozens of times.
-
No more than whatever the label says is maximum.
Considering there are probably a few thousand "covered light fixtures", that's the best I can do.
-
Please try your question again. This is impossible to understand.
What is "the bar its self"?
-
What the OP is suggesting is complete lunacy.
I'd seek professional help if I were them. That is no way to go through life.
-
Don, the utility has no jurisdiction on where the panel is placed. They will have say on meter placement, but definitely no the panel inside the house.
-
There is no such thing. Both are actually 240V.
What exactly are you looking to do?
