    You learn to live with yourself, which is good to learn anyway.
    If the other person is still alive, you spend the next 100 years putting what you learn into practice.
    One of the things to learn is that you don't 'have' people (adults anyway) and therefore can't 'replace' them. So it was a faulty premise.
