I have a quandry. I am going to travel from the East Coast USA to the West Coast (Los Angeles) by plane. Then for a month or so I will travel by rental car to visit in Palm Springs, CA; Phoenix, AZ; Grand Canyon area; and Las Vegas. Then back to Los Angeles to return the car and take the plane back.
Now I see that Southwest Airlines has $49 one-way flights between all places and there is space. To use them I would have to still use a rental car at the locations where I am going and there would be some backtracking.
The plane travel would save about 450 miles of driving. Do you think the hassle of dealing with an extra three flights would be worse than driving those miles in the desert? The cost seems to be about the same for both modes of travel.
