So here's the dilemma:
Last weekend, I let a friend convince me to dye my beautiful light ash blonde hair red. The ash blonde wasn't natural; I haven't had my natural hair colour in around 4 years.
Last July/August, I had black hair and had been dying it blue-black for about 10/11 months before deciding to lift the colour myself. I got it to a tangerine colour (it was very damaged and broken) before giving in and letting a hairdresser correct the colour. From then on, we lightened it step by step and in the last month I had finally achieved my desired ash blonde.
Then this happened. We bought a box dye and because I was caught up in the moment, I was pretty excited about having light auburn hair for a while, thinking I could lighten it back up when I got bored with it later. After processing for 20 minutes, it was fire engine red. I had a dinner date that night and I panicked and so for a quick fix, we dyed over the red with a light brown colour. That night it was a deep red, and I hated it. It's now been almost four days and I've been scrubbing my hair with head and shoulders anti-dandruff shampoo and it's lightened a couple of shades to a more orangey-brown colour.
I hate it. I absolutely hate it. One of the worst mistakes I have ever made. However, I cannot afford to have it corrected professionally because they drag it out and it takes a long time and I just don't have the money right now.
My plan is to let it fade over the next week and then next weekend, strip the colour with a Loreal super blonde colour lightener (have used before and positive results). Obviously it will go orange, and I'll deep condition it over the next 24 hours and the bleach it again with 30 vol developer and blue bleach. I'm hoping it will at least go to a light orange colour (as this is the first dark colour over my previous light colour) and then depending on how light it is, I'll colour with medium ash blonde, light ash blonde, or light ash brown. All this with minimum damage to my hair, although I know there will be some damage. My hair is just past shoulder length right now so I am prepared to cut some off to get my blonde back.
All in all, it will be two weeks since I dyed it when I bleach it. Can you tell me if this is okay? Should I wait longer? I am going to Europe in three weeks and want it done by then. As I said, the colour is fading reasonably quickly but I need it gone.
