I used Loreal hair color remover and it did a bang up job, actually removed the old dye and left me with a light auburn (ok, pale orange) hair, just like it said it would do. So, yay for Loreal!

My goal was to strip out years of dye because after doing dark reddish brown for so long my hair had gotten kind of muddy looking and was just dark brown. What I wanted to do after removing the old dye was go to a dark auburn color. Maybe a medium reddish brown.

But the light red color my hair is now has kind of grown on me. I think I want to stick with it for a little while any way... at least give my hair a break for a few weeks from the chemicals. The color remover was pretty harsh but right now my hair is not in bad shape so I thought a break would keep it from turning into straw.

My question is this: my natural color is a dark brown. Even before I started getting gray hair (in college... boo!) it looked almost ashy. So what color should I get to touch up my roots. Obviously I didn't use the color remover on my roots as it didn't have any dye but they kind of stand out a bit darker than the "bleached" hair. If I get a light auburn or strawberry blonde that matches the rest of my hair, will that come close to making my roots match? Or should I just use the darker color all over now?
