Ok, here's the situation. My friend works for a hospital, not in patient care. She filled a vicodin prescription at her work pharmacy on Wednesday. She then went to a local drug store and tried to get the refill she thought she had left. The store called her work pharmacy and the insurance denied the refill. So... the pharmacy manager at her work, the hospital, called her department mgr to let her know what had happened (they are accusing her of felonies, fraud... not once did they try to get her help and let her keep her job). The manager of her department and the pharmacy manager called her into a meeting and she was fired. Did they violate HIPPA or however you abbreviate it? She is getting treatment and this was the wakeup call she needed, but was it legal for them to share this info?
