I'm trying to help my retired neighbor figure out why his lathe doesn't operate in high speed. The lathe is a Goodway brand, model GW1660, made in Taiwan (?! ) circa mid 80's.

He found the original owners manual, but the electrical diagram in it seems wrong, really, really wrong. According to the diagram, the low speed contactor must be made in order for the high speed contactor and auxiliary to come on (normally open contact). The auxiliary is wired into the secondary side of the low speed contactor, and basically makes a new wye connection. If the low contactor were to be on with the high contactors, according to the diagram, I would have a direct short. ARrrrgh! Even more frustrating is that there are normally closed contacts for the high speed contactors to the coil for the low speed contactor!

So, if anyone knows how I could find a better print, please let me know. I'm seriously considering rewiring the entire machine also, so any wiring diagram for a two speed motor would possibly come in handy, as obviously I'm not going to wire the speed controls off this one.
