I have a shoulder problem that started three years ago and I really don't think it was sports related. I want to know if it sounds like I'm dealing with a dislocation or a subluxation.

I like to sleep with my arms up under my pillow. The first time I recall my problem, I was sleeping and wanted to remove my arm from up under my pillow. It felt kind of stiff, like I didn't know how I should move my arm down. So I just moved it like normal and I think it slipped out of socket and I woke up screaming. Over the years, including last night, it happens once in a while. During volleyball I reached back really far to hit the ball. I wound up the ground, forced to knock my shouldar into place. I usually have to smack it against a surface. The last two times it didn't do it as fast as it usually does which scared me.

Ok, am I completley dislocating it? Or is it a subluxation? I told my doctor and she only had me move it (it was fine for her) and she gave me some exercises, which I'm lazy and I don't do them that much. Sometimes after an incident I grab my hand weight and make circular motions, and it sounds like my shouldar clicks and pops.

What does it sound like I'm dealing with? What would you recommend? I'm really scared that I will put it back into place wrong or that it won't go in for me next time.-
