    Canadian Statute of Limitations?
    I'm not going to make excuses, when I was 19 I was arrested for shoplifting in Toronto, Canada. They gave me a court date and I never showed up. All this happened in 2002. I don't live in Canada anymore, though I am a Canadian citizen, and don't plan on going there in the near future but I would like to get this thing settled. How can I find out what type of warrant has been issued against me? What is my best course of action? I haven't had any legal troubles since or after. Is there any chance this will just go away with time? I am a citizen of another country (a European one) and if it's too much of a hassle I just won't deal with it. I know it was a stupid thing and would appreciate any advice.

    There is no SOL once you have been charged with a crime.

    The SOL only refers to how long the government can charge you with the crime.

    As for what to do now, contact a lawyer in Canada and that will allow him or her to work on your behalf to clear up this matter…perhaps arrange some sort of fine that you pay to end this matter.
