Choose healthier foods/drinks, watch portion size (many people eat more than is necessary), and try to exercise daily or at least several times a week. You can find exercise videos online, get DVDs, or join a fitness center . Try a sport you might enjoy... cycle, dance, swim, etc, or simply start walking. Maybe see if a friend or family member would also like to lose some weight and you can make some changes together.
A big belly can be from heredity, or it can be from drinking alcohol, or if it's big all around (proportional to legs) it can be a possible sign of diabetes. Or some combination of all of them.
Sit ups are one good exercise for that area. Put your toes under a couch and do 20 a day, adding 10 more each time it gets easier.

But you exercise, and watch what you eat. Simple, but most people will not do it
